Hyatt & Peloton Announce New Partnership

Over the past few years, I’ve gone on a fitness journey that I’m quite proud of. In December of 2021, I weighted 256 pounds (yes, I’m being exact). As of today, I’ve dropped 50 pounds. I’m really proud of this!

Post from my personal Instagram page about my fitness journey

A huge part of my personal fitness journey is via Peloton. In 2022, I biked for over 10,000 minutes, dropping 35 pounds that year alone. (I’ve now added strength training, so my weight loss has decreased as I put on muscle.)

Peloton has quite a large, wealthy, and loyal clientele, with many instructors having over a million followers across their social media accounts. As part of that, there is an itching from hotel brands to figure out how to top into that loyalty. From Peloton’s perspective, they also are looking for ways to engage with customers when they’re traveling, as most people likely aren’t taking their Peloton equipment with them when they travel!

Hilton was the first out of the gate to offer Pelotons at all of their hotels. I reviewed my experience with this here (shout out to early blog posts!). Overall, it was a great experience to keep up my fitness regimen that I had fallen so in love with.

Hyatt and Peloton Announce New Partnership

I first saw this on Peloton instructor Jess King’s Instagram on May 1st, causing me to go look for the press release.

Hyatt will now be outfitting 800+ hotel gyms with Peloton equipment, focusing primarily on bikes but a few will have rowers as well. Additionally, 400 of these hotels will also offer in-room workouts that require no equipment (so most likely bodyweight and yoga classes).

I would assume meditation classes might be on offer as well. However, Hyatt does already have a relationship with Headspace, so Hyatt may focus on that for meditation instead.

Let’s go over the brief in detail to hopefully figure out what this might actually look like in practice.

Only Select Hotels will Get a Peloton

This offering will only occur in hotels in regions where Peloton currently operates. This includes the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Austria, and Australia.

Earn Hyatt Points for Using Peloton in Hotels

From a points & miles perspective, this is easily the most interesting point that has been raised in the press briefing. For some amount of working out on a Peloton bike or rower at participating hotels, you’ll be able to earn Hyatt points.

If I were a betting man, I am going to guess that you’ll get about 100 Hyatt points per some amount of time spent working out (i.e., you won’t get 100 points for just doing a 5 minute warm-up and leaving). I will guess that this will be capped at a certain number of points per day. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it requires either a.) completing the workout or b.) reaching a certain actual output goal. This would prevent people from just turning it on and leaving to get the 100 points.

Special Offers for World of Hyatt Members from Peloton

Peloton will offer World of Hyatt members a 60-day trial via World of Hyatt and discounts on Peloton equipment.

The free trial is really no different than the 60-day trial you can get from a friend. However, it is 30 days longer than getting a free trial directly from Peloton.

For the discounts on Peloton equipment, we’ll have to see what that entails, as details are sparse.

Conference-Specific Peloton Workouts

One of my most memorable stays of all time was being upgraded to the Presidential Suite at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta during a psychology conference. I was out of academia by that point, so I was really going to see some friends of mine. They had called me the day before and asked if the “Presidential Suite would be acceptable.” (DUH!)

That being said, conference hotels will now offer unique Peloton workouts that are specifically designed for conference attendees to get moving. I sat a lot at these conferences, so the ability to get up and get moving would be an interesting selling point. It’ll be interesting to see how often conferences actually use this.

Discounts for Hyatt Employees

Hyatt employees will now get offers on the Peloton app, as well as discounts on Peloton hardware. Assuming it’s a free membership with the app, I think this could be a great value for all Peloton employees. Discounts on Peloton hardware will most likely only be accessible by higher-income earning Hyatt employees.

Thoughts on the Hyatt and Peloton Partnership

As someone who has truly transformed their life because of Peloton, I am quite excited to see more Hyatt properties get Peloton equipment. Most stationary bikes are really difficult to get a proper cycling workout in, so seeing them in Hyatt hotels, where I spend well over a month of my life each calendar year, will be a blessing for me.

As always, the devil is in the details. It’ll be interesting to see what points earning with Peloton will look like, as well as when that begins.

Additionally, as I mentioned in my article about the Hilton-Peloton partnership, Hyatt has to make sure that their hotels are following through on maintenance. I can’t stress this enough! For example, I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Boston (review to come). They had two Peloton bikes. One bike clearly had a different calibration than the other, which affects the metrics. However, given that the Home2Suites in Clarksville, Tennessee, were able to keep both of their bikes working, I would expect a more formal maintenance program to occur.

Conclusion

Hyatt and Peloton have released an exciting new partnership where World of Hyatt members can expect to see Peloton equipment in hotels, earn points working out, and more. I am looking forward to see how this program rolls out and will make sure to update as I learn more.

What do you think of the new Hyatt-Peloton relationship? Do you plan on using a Peloton at a Hyatt hotel? More interestingly, will you shift hotel stays to take advantage of the Peloton equipment and experience?
