For those who don’t know, a Companion Pass is normally given to Southwest flyers who earn 125,000 eligible points from qualifying sources in a calendar year (think flying, credit card spending, partner spending). Upon attaining 125,000, flyers get to take a companion for nothing more than the cost of taxes and fees (for domestic US flying, $5.60 each way) for the remainder of the year and the following year. In my opinion, it’s the best deal in travel. Basically, it’s 2 trips for the price of one person. What a deal!
The Promotional Companion Pass is Now Usable
Back in September of last year, Southwest had an incredible promotion: take two Southwest flights by November 18th, and you would get a promotional Companion Pass valid from January 6th, 2022 until February 28th, 2022.
The promotional Companion Pass has been added to account early. If you signed up for and completed the promotion, you are now eligible to sign up your companion using your Companion Pass.
I signed up and earned my promotional Companion Pass during my wife and I’s trip to Cancun in late October/early November 2021. It was actually my first time flying Southwest in years, but we had picked up tickets back in June 2021 when Southwest was having their incredible 50% off sale.
We have two trips planned during the promotional period. I have gone ahead and added my wife to both of the reservations that I have previously made in my name so that we go on a couple of weekend trips. I was even able to apply travel funds to pay for her taxes and fees.
Conclusion
If you signed up for the promotional Companion Pass and were able to get one, it is now usable! Enjoy your trips with your companion!
