Lucky Buns Ronald Reagan International Airport (DCA) Review

Airport Restaurant Review

Anyone who knows me knows that I have been very up front about my love for a good burger and chicken sandwich. I have long believed that Lucky Buns is one of the best places to get a burger or chicken sandwich and fries in DC. The location in the Adams Morgan neighborhood is actually the first place that my wife and I ate at when we moved here!

With that being said, on April 2nd, Lucky Buns opened at Ronald Reagan International Airport (airport code DCA). I had the opportunity to stop by for some food before a flight down to Nashville (hotel trip report to come!), and I thought that I would share my experiences.

Lucky Buns Ronald Reagan DCA Location

Lucky Buns is located post-security in Terminal 2 in the National Hall. It is located right next to Concourse B, which is where Delta, Alaska, and United fly from.

Unfortunately, that means that it’s incredibly inconvenient if you’re flying Southwest, Frontier, or Air Canada. If you’re flying another carrier, then it’s quite easy to access.

Regardless of which security checkpoint you go through, you’ll turn right. If you go through security on the north end, which is by the American Airlines check-in desks, you’ll have to walk a bit further, but it’s no more than a 5 minute walk.

You have to try really hard to miss it.

Lucky Buns Ronald Reagan DCA Entry & Set-Up

You have two options: You can choose to be seated at a proper table, sit at the bar, or this standard airport bar (but not a bar) seating for 1 or 2 individuals.

The slides on this guy’s backpack make this photo funny. Literally just noticed it as I am writing this up.

If you sit at a proper table, you have fantastic views!

For this trip, I chose to sit at the bar. I love the decor. Very Lucky Buns-esque.

Lucky Buns Menu

You can see the menu below. It appears to be the full menu that they serve in other restaurants. Given that they advertise this location on their own website, it appears that they run this restaurant and don’t contract it out to HSM Host or another usual airport vendor.

For this trip, given that it was 2:30 in the afternoon (and I would be having cocktails in Nashville), I opted to just get a Diet Coke with lime and some Cajun Spiced Fries.

Working on the blog at Lucky Buns!

The quality was on par with what I have had at their other locations not in the airport. Delicious!

In total, I paid about $18 (with tax and tip).

Lucky Buns Service

I’ve always had good service at Lucky Buns. This was no exception. My Diet Coke was refilled often, and service was quick, which is what I would expect for an airport location.

My favorite part is that the uniform still requires the funky shirts. Never change, Lucky Buns, never change!

Lucky Buns To-Go

Lucky Buns also opted to build a to-go / takeaway station outside of the main restaurant, where you can get most, if not all, of their menu.

To my knowledge, the only other sit-down restaurant with a “to-go” stand at DCA is PF Changs in Concourse E. If you’re in a hurry, Lucky Buns would be a great location to grab something.

The to-go window is also great for Lucky Buns in a business-sense, as it’s literally as you enter Concourse B right outside of security, so it’s on your way to your flight if you’re flying out of there. I expect that they’ll make a fair amount of money from that.

Conclusion

If you’re in Ronald Reagan International Airport (DCA), and looking for a great sit-down meal, Lucky Buns is my new go-to place. I have always enjoyed Lucky Buns. I know that I will use this location, whether it’s while flying or to grab a bite to eat before volunteering.

What do you think of this airport Lucky Buns? Would you give it a try?
